Q: What is the difference between Auto-Poll mode and Auto-Answer mode? A:   When HAP is running on a PC, it can be configured to call out to loggers and interrogate them periodically based on time, the Auto-Poll mode, or it can be setup to accept incoming calls initiated by field loggers, the Auto-Answer mode.
Q:  How do I configure HAP for the Auto-Poll mode? A:  Using the graphic interface in HAP, configure a Site File for each of the loggers to be interrogated. This Site File will contain parameters such as the name of the site, the connection details for the logger (phone number), how often to call the logger, and the action to perform when the logger is contacted, e.g. download of data, clear of memory, file conversion to Excel. After a Site File is built for each logger, combine them into a group of Site Files called a Polling File, and click on the Auto-Poll button. HAP will start executing the Polling File, interrogating each of the loggers per the instructions contained in their Site Files.
Q:  How do I configure HAP for the Auto-Answer mode? A:  Configuration of the Auto-Answer mode is done by programming the logger to call out upon an event or time. A special HAP Icon is incorporated into the logger Program Net built within HyperWare. The HAP icon configuration dialog allows for User entry of setup parameters such as the method of communication, phone number of the PC running HAP, and the action to perform in the interrogation such as download of data, clear of memory, file conversion to Excel, Excel report generation, etc. The Program Net is then uploaded to the logger where it executes calling out to the PC running HAP periodically based on time or upon an event occurrence. The PC that will answer the incoming call must be running HAP and be enabled in the Auto-Answer mode.
Q: Can the logger send out alarms to HAP? A:  In addition to all of the standard logger output alarms (e.g. digital and relay outputs, paging, LCD, etc) a logger configured for use with HAP can also send out a text message alarm that contains any custom User specified message. This message will pop-up in a text window on the monitor of the PC running HAP as well as be logged into the report log file.
Q: What is the HAP `Reporting' function used for? A:   In addition to data downloads, during a HAP interrogation, logger values (Probe Point icon values and system parameters) can be transferred from the logger to HAP and then into a custom User defined Excel spreadsheet. Much like mail-merge, an Excel template is built from within HAP and saved. When the logger is interrogated, information as specified by the User is imported into the template and the report is completed. Optionally, after a report is generated, a User written macro can be automatically called that can perform any further processing desired. The macro can be written in Excel Macro language or Visual Basic... allowing for very powerful further data processing, printing, etc.
